Your pre-departure checklist

  1. Apply for your accommodation

    Click here to browse our accommodation options and fill out our online application form.

  2. Apply for your visa

    If your home country isn’t in the European Economic area (EEA), you need to apply for a Tier 4 (General) student visa before you arrive in the UK. Click here for more information.

  3. Book your flight and airport transfers

    Once you’ve received your visa, you can book your flight to the UK and join us in Plymouth for orientation week. Remember, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months.

    We offer airport pick-up for individuals and groups, which needs to be booked at least 48 hours in advance. Click here to request airport pick-up. Alternatively, you can travel to Plymouth by train (visit National Rail) or coach (visit National Express).

  4. Join our student Facebook group

    You don’t have to wait until you arrive in Plymouth to start getting to know other UPIC students. Click here to join our Facebook group and get started!

  5. Check luggage restrictions

    Certain items will not be allowed through airport security. Click here for more information on hand luggage restrictions in the UK and remember to check your airline’s luggage allowance.

    Once you have arrived you will go through immigration clearance. Please watch this video on goods that you can bring into the UK.

  6. Pack

    Make sure you have the following:

    • The UPIC 24/7 emergency telephone number: +44 (0) 7545 644 257
    • Contact details for your friends and family
    • UK currency (GBP/Pound Sterling)
    • Weather-appropriate clothing, including a waterproof coat and shoes – you can check the weather in Plymouth here
    • An adaptor for UK electricity sockets


  • Your UPIC offer letter
  • Your CAS (if required)
  • Your academic qualifications, including English language test result
  • Your Tier 4 decision letter
  • Your passport with entry vignette and at least 4 passport-sized photographs
  • Bank statements covering a minimum of 28 days, stamped by the bank
  • Your guardian and parental consent letters (if you are under 18)
  • Your documents for medical registration, which may include an immunisation history book/evidenceand UK Foreign Commonwealth Office Visa Tuberculosis Screening Certificate
  • To arrange medical insurance
